Apple's latest mini-LED 12.9-inch iPad Pro has a flaw, and it could cost you an additional $31,900.

At least one new iPad Pro tablet, unveiled at Apple's 'Spring Loaded' event earlier this week, had a feature we hadn't seen before in an iDevice. We're talking about the larger 12.9-inch iPad Pro, which is known for its Liquid Retina XDR panel, which is also the first to use mini-LED display technology. Apple did state that the mini-LED panel would bring more saturation, peak brightness, and contrast ratios, but it didn't say how much thicker it would be.

According to Apple's website, the 12.9-inch Apple iPad Pro is 6.4mm thick, slightly thicker than the 11-inch model's 5.9mm. However, although this might seem insignificant, it is bad news for those looking to upgrade from an older 12.9-inch iPad and use the original Magic Keyboard adapter.

The big catch is that the latest 2021 model is incompatible with the old Magic Keyboard folio case, which sponsored both the 2018 and 2020 12.9-inch iPad Pros. While Apple has not confirmed this, The Verge has confirmed that you will need to purchase the new $349 Magic Keyboard case for the new iPad Pro tablet based on their sources.

The thickness of this older-generation accessory is said to be linked to the use of mini-LED technology, causing incompatibility. However, since the current 11-inch iPad lacks mini-LED technology, it retains the same 5.9mm thickness as the 2020 edition, as seen on Apple's website.

The other silver lining is that the current Magic Keyboard folio case is compatible with both this year's iPad and the iPads due out in 2018 and 2020. However, knowing that a user would have to pay extra for the accessory in order to get the full benefits of the latest M1-based tablet can be an inconvenience.

The new 12.9-inch iPad Pro is available in five storage options: a 128GB model for $9,900, a 256GB model for $1,08,900, a 512GB model for $1,26,900, a 1TB model for $1,62,900, and a 1TB model for $1,98,900. (2TB). The price of the 11-inch model starts at 71,900 for 128GB and goes up to 1,70,900 for 2TB. The new Magic Keyboard for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro costs $31,900 and is available in Black/White.
