Bigbasket got Hacked.

A database containing the personal information of over 20 million BigBasket customers has reportedly been leaked on the dark web, months after the online grocery delivery platform announced a data breach. The alleged database contains the affected customers' email addresses, phone numbers, and hashed passwords. BigBasket users' physical addresses and dates of birth are also allegedly included in the results. Despite the fact that the database is accessible for free on the dark Web and contains encrypted user passwords, another hacker claims to have decrypted some of the leaked passwords.

A hacker community known as ShinyHunters has posted the suspected BigBasket database on the dark Web.It includes details such as the email addresses, names, date of birth, and phone numbers.

“We learned about a possible data breach at BigBasket a few days ago and are assessing the scope of the breach and the validity of the claim in collaboration with cybersecurity experts and seeking urgent ways to contain it,” the company said in a statement, confirming the data breach that was made public by cybersecurity research firm Cyble.

Over the weekend, ShinyHunters made the supposed BigBasket database available for download on the dark Web. The hashed passwords of the affected customers were included. However, some plain text passwords are now being sold on the dark web.

“Another hacker claims to have decrypted millions of BigBasket passwords,” Rajaharia explained. “This could pose a significant problem for the affected consumers, as bad actors could use the decrypted passwords and leaked email addresses to gain access to their personal Web accounts.”

Meanwhile, Have I Been Pwned?, a website that alerts users if their data has been compromised by recent breaches, has sent an email to some of the affected customers informing them of the data leak.

BigBasket, which was established in 2011 and is backed by Alibaba in China, is one of the most popular online grocery delivery platforms. The pandemic aided the company's expansion and also attracted Tata Group, which agreed to buy a majority stake in the company in February.
