Xiaomi is developing a smartphone with a camera sensor with a resolution of 200 mega pixels.

According to a new source, Xiaomi is working on a smartphone with a 200-megapixel sensor. This news comes just days after Xiaomi unveiled the Xiaomi Mi 11X Pro in India, which features a 108-megapixel Samsung HM2 primary sensor. For quite some time, rumours about the 200-megapixel sensor have been circulating on the Internet. Samsung is also rumoured to be working on a 200-megapixel ISOCELL sensor for mobile cameras, according to a couple of tipsters.

In a tweet and a Weibo post, tipster Digital Chat Station confirmed the existence of a 200-megapixel sensor (via ITHome).

While the tipster's post does not state that Xiaomi is working on a smartphone with a 200-megapixel camera, the ITHome article does. It also cites an older Weibo post from tipster Ice Universe, who said that Samsung is working on this ISOCELL sensor, which has a 0.64-micron pixel.

This isn't the first time Samsung has been mentioned as the manufacturer of a 200-megapixel camera sensor. Apart from Ice Universe's tweet, tipster WHYLAB also reported that Samsung is developing this sensor. Samsung's purported 200-megapixel sensor measures 1/ 1.37-inch and has 1.28-micron pixels, according to WHYLAB.It is said to support 4-in-1 and 16-in-1 pixel binning technology in order to minimise noise for better images. It was also suggested that the sensor be used to capture 16K images.

WHYLAB also speculated that the sensor would make its debut in the ZTE Axon 30 Pro 5G at the time, but the smartphone was launched with a Samsung 64-megapixel sensor. In a tweet, Mark Peters of LetsGoDigital said that the Samsung Galaxy S22 would have a 200-megapixel sensor. In collaboration with Technizo Concept, he also shared 3D product renders highlighting the 200-megapixel Olympus camera. As of now, there is no concrete information in this regard, so take the developments with a grain of salt.
